The Environment doctor writes....
Broughton Astley lies within a rural area surrounded by smaller villages, dairy and arable farmland. Years ago Broughton was three separate settlements; Primethorpe, Sutton-in-the-Elms and Broughton Astley. The village has several distinctive buildings; the Parish Church, The Liberal Hall, The Station House and the Baptist Chapel. There is a small brook running through the village which is home to lots of hungry ducks and a variety of other wildlife!
'Prescription' for improving the environment
• Create a wildlife garden in St Mary's churchyard
• Manage the brook and surrounding environment more effectively
• Promote a cleaner village environment
• Create a village Gateway sign for Broughton Astley
The Gateway Project
The aim of this project is to create a steel sculpture to place at the entrance to Broughton Astley. Students at Thomas Estley Community College participating in the 'Broughton Alive' project worked with a professional willow weaver, Tom Hare. They made sculptures from willow to enable them to create a design for the gateway that will be translated into steel. | The Western Willows wildlife area.
