The Business Doctor writes....

Unemployment in Broughton Astley is very low and a high proportion of the area's workforce have professional or managerial jobs. There are local employment opportunities in retailing, restaurants, hairdressing & beauty therapy, and in a variety of skilled industrial and light manufacturing positions. There could be as many as 180 businesses running from the villages that do not have a shop front ('virtual' businesses). There is a Building Society but no bank in the village, with no provision of business support in the local area. There is currently no Business directory and no Chamber of Commerce.

The 'prescription'

• Promote shopping facilities in the village
• Re-establish a Chamber of Trade
• Survey and co-ordinate a business plan for the greater inclusion of local retailers in Broughton Astley's hinterland
• Produce a leaflet promoting local shops, services and produce

The 'Broughton In Business' group was formed in 2006 and is made up of local business owners. Anyone with a business in the village is welcome to join and will be more than welcome. Following the Healthcheck steering committee's successful publication of a leaflet promoting local shops, Broughton in Business are currently trying to publish another one promoting the 'virtual' businesses in the village. They would also like to host a 'Business Fayre' and need as many businesses as possible to come and get involved. The potential for this group is huge. If you would like to find out more please contact ........

The Broughton in Business forum exists to promote the interests of all local businesses, large and small.
